Died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 after a long illness. Born March 8, 1921 in Westfield, WI, son of the late August and Laura (Brose) Ziebell, he graduated from Wautoma High School (WI) in 1941. Martin served in the Army manning anti-aircraft artillery in the China-Burma-India (CBI) theater during WWII. He married Gertrude Williams September 3, 1949 in Wild Rose, WI. In 1950 Martin graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in Soils & Agronomy.




Survivors include his wife, Gertrude, three daughters: Janet Ziebell, Stillwater; Ruth Lehmann, Stillwater; Becky (Dennis) Anderson, White Bear Lake; two grandsons Nathan (Annka) Lehmann, Charleston, SC; Scott, Colorado Springs, CO; and granddaughter Erica (Anthony Krull) Anderson, Menomonie. Also niece Kay Anne (Jim) Willoughby, nephew Larry (January) Erdman, and many sisters- and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Gertrude Erdman, and niece Debra Moran.




Mart and Gert started their 60 years of marriage in upstate New York where he was an USDA Soils Scientist in Lowville & Plattsburg. He transferred to St. Cloud, MN in 1954 and for health reasons he relocated to Stillwater in 1968 to serve as District Conservationist for Washington County. He took great pride in helping develop the Lake Elmo Park Reserve. He retired from Federal service in 1983. Water conservation was very important to him.




Mart was a member of Rotary. He served as both elder and trustee in the church. His varied interests included photography, woodworking, hunting for and polishing agates, stamp collecting, traveling, fishing, gardening, lawn work, playing bridge, hearts and YahtzeeA�, dancing, and listening to light classical music.




The care from the staff at Golden Living Center - Greeley and the Lakeview Hospital Hospice was loving and heartfelt thanks goes to the many friends who visited Mart the last two years of his long-term stay. He suffered from REM Sleep Behavior Disorder for almost 30 years, which greatly affected his life.




Visitation for Martin will be held from 6PM to 8PM Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd.(NW corner of Hwy 36 & Co Rd 5), Stillwater. A one-hour viewing precedes the funeral service from 12PM - 1PM at the church. The funeral service will be held at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 6201 Osgood Avenue North, Stillwater, Friday, May 14 at 1:00 PM. With internment following at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church, that will be designated for building and grounds.
