Mary Jean “Lyon” Bannert went to be with her Lord on November 4, 2022.
Mary “Peg” was born in International Falls, Minnesota on January 24, 1938 to the parents of Theresa “Warmuth” Lyon and Delbert Lyon. Growing up, Mary loved playing outside and being in the woods. She and her five brothers cared and watched out for each other. In her teenage years Mary cleaned cabins at a resort in Kabetogama and graduated from Falls High School in International Falls.
On June 22, 1957 Mary married Raymond Irwin Bannert in International Falls, the love of her life.
Mary and Ray had four daughters who filled them with life and love. Debra “Dean” Maish, Dianna “Warren” Weum, Dora “Ron” Bich, and Dorothy (Dot) Hostetter. Mary was so proud of them all. She also adored her little dog Skipper Ray.
Mary and Ray have five grandchildren, four great grandchildren with two more on the way. Jason Maish, Sarah “Colby” Smith, Noah Smith, Alicia “Joseph” Ross, Jedidiah Ross, Lillian Ross, Joseph Ross, Michael “Lauren” Weum and Ryan Hostetter. Mary loved them so much and enjoyed being with her grandchildren.
He hobbies were to tend her flower and vegetable gardens. She also was an avid quilter and enjoyed going for long walks in the woods and attending church with her family.
Mary worked in the kitchen at Falls Memorial Hospital, Falls Good Samaritan, and Falls Senior High School in International Falls. She enjoyed working and helping others. Mary loved her home on County Road 98 near Ericsburg.
Mary is survived by her daughters Dianna, Dora and Dot as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary is survived also by her great and wonderful brother William “Bill” Lyon, sister-in-law Karey Lyon and many nieces and nephews whom she loved so much.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Theresa and Delbert Lyon, husband Raymond Bannert, daughter Debra Maish, brothers Lawrence, Delbert “Bob”, Eugene “Gene” and John Lyon, sisters-in-law Shirley "Ness" Lyon, Janice "Noggle" Lyon and Bonnie "Black" Lyon, Irene “Howard” Toutges, Evelyn “Ken” Persoon, brothers-in-law Don Bannert and Glenn “Shirlee” Bannert.
A celebration of her life will be held at Woodbury Lutheran Church - Oak Hill campus 9050 60th Street North, Stillwater, Minnesota 55082 on Wednesday, November 9. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM with the celebration following at 11:00 AM. There will be a “little lunch” following the service. A short graveside service and Interment will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in International Falls on Friday, November 11 at 1:00 PM. Fellowship will follow at Zion Lutheran Church.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the compassionate caregivers at Norris Square – Presbyterian Homes in Cottage Grove.
