Mary Ellen Mammenga, age 80, of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023.

Mary Ellen was born on November 12, 1942 in Oneka Township, Washington County, Minnesota (by Hugo, MN) to Jelto and Dora Mammenga. She worked at Presbyterian Homes for many years and later in life, Mary Ellen handed out samples at the local grocery stores for Advantage Sales and Marketing.

Mary Ellen loved listening to music (especially Elvis), going to the casino to win the big jackpot, rooting for the Vikings, and spending time with her family. She also loved taking trips to the lake to have bonfires, go fishing, and take pontoon rides. She enjoyed going to Goodwill to find those special items to wear or decorate the house. Mary Ellen’s favorite place to eat was Culver's Restaurant. She also loved collecting glass blue birds. She was caring, kind, fun, a giver, and had a big heart. She was always thinking (and worrying) about her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

Mary Ellen is survived by her son, Robert (Carrie) Mammenga of Lake Elmo, MN; two grandchildren: Christina (David) Roellig and Derek (Ellee) Mammenga; three great-grandchildren: Henry, Madelyn, Paxton, and a little girl on the way; three siblings: Dave (Jeanie) Mammenga, Jewell Schmidt, & Jeanie Roeller; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Jelto & Dora Mammenga; brothers John & Donald Mammenga; sister Darlene (Jerry) Bayers; and brother-in-law Albert Schmidt.

Mary Ellen passed away knowing Jesus as her Savior and Lord. She acknowledged that Jesus lived in her heart and said she enjoyed talking to God. Mary Ellen’s favorite verse was “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26) and had this displayed in her home.

Please join us to celebrate Mary Ellen’s life at ST. LUCAS COMMUNITY CHURCH, 1195 Manning Avenue North, Lake Elmo on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M.  A luncheon will follow the service at the church.  Interment Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to family for distribution to ministries/charities.
