Mary Alice died November 15, 2006 at The Gathering, Lakeview Hospital Hospice at Boutwells Landing, Stillwater, MN.
She was born March 13, 1930 in Omaha, NE. Her parents Will and Alice Matthews preceded her in death. Survived by brother, William Matthews (Sandy) of Omaha; niece, Amy Matthews, of NYC; niece, Hope Matthews (Shaun) and great niece, Lucy of N.C.
Mary Alice attended private schools in Omaha and continued her education at Iowa U and Washington U in St. Louis. From 1969 ? 1993 she was on the staff at Southwest MN State University in Marshall, MN. Her position was Director of Publications and retired with distinction.
In 1998 Mary Alice moved to Marine on St. Croix. She enjoyed the St. Croix Valley and was pleased many of her colleagues relocated to the Metro area. The kitchen was her favorite place, enjoying gourmet cooking for herself and guests. Lamb was served instead of turkey at Thanksgiving.
Her cultural interests included classical concerts, plays at Guthrie, art galleries, contemporary art and design shows. Mozart was her favorite composer and she especially enjoyed the bassoon concerto.
The last few years, health problems developed. Home Care Nurses made daily visits which allowed her to remain home. Mary Alice required more nursing care at Linden and Good Samaritan Homes. Fall 2005 she moved to Assisted Living at Boutwell. Her last nine days of comfort care was met at The Gathering. We express our sincere thanks to all the above caregivers and the dialysis staff who met her many health needs in a caring spirit and with great expertise.
A service will be held on Thursday, November 30, 1 PM, followed by a social hour, at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd., (corner of Hwy 36 & Co 5) Stillwater. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Omaha, NE.
