Maxine Elaine Koob

We sadly announce the passing of Maxine Elaine Koob (Elaine), (93), of Stillwater, Minnesota on October 2^nd, 2023, after a drawn-out battle with Alzheimer’s.

Elaine was born to Henry Herman Ortman Jr. and Martha Henrietta (Hoffman) Ortman on May 11^th, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska.  An independent and vibrant personality from the beginning, Elaine was an excellent student of the Arts, honing her skills of Music, Painting, & Pottery.

Elaine married David Darrell Koob on October 5^th, 1951. Their love of nature and the great outdoors was kicked off by spending their honeymoon in a literal shack nestled on a remote island located in the northern Canadian section of the Lake of the Woods. They spent their days deeply devoted to each other while Elaine threw clay on her many pottery wheels and nurtured their bit of heaven along the St Croix river.

Elaine is survived by her niece and nephews, Paula Keesy (Bob), Dennis Ortman (Karen), Joel Ortman (Sue) and predeceased by her husband David Koob, her parents Henry and Martha Ortman, her brother & wife, Jerome (Jerry) and Marylou Ortman and the loving dogs they had over the years – Coco, Skippy, Sam, Diggy, Tagish, & Amos.

A committal service with Military Honors will be held for both Elaine and David, October 19^th, 2023, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
A celebration of life gathering will be scheduled for spring/summer of 2024, in which all are welcome. If you’d like to honor Elaine’s legacy, please donate to Christian Crusaders, 7401 University Avenue, Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613 in Elaine's name.
