Michael Madden

May 10, 1956 — August 3, 2022

White Bear Township

Mike entered eternal life on August 3, 2022 after living courageously with glioblastoma brain cancer for almost 7 years.

He was born in Milwaukee, WI on May 10, 1956.  He was preceded in death by his mother Ellen (Erin) (nee Ledwell) Madden and is survived by his father Dr. Robert Madden and his wife Patricia.

Mike was the beloved husband of Laurel (Kasinak) Madden.  They met in 1977 while attending the University of St. Thomas and St. Catherine University respectively in St. Paul, MN.  They were married on July 10, 1982 at Presentation of Mary Church in Maplewood.

Mike is survived by Laurel and their children Kelly (Jason Hepola) of Minneapolis and Daniel of Stillwater.  He was the proud and loving grandpa of Hazel Ann and Leo Michael.  Mike always put his family first above all else in his life.

He will be deeply missed by his brother Joseph Madden (Anne) of Milwaukee, WI, his sisters Debbie Milburn (Steve) and Mary Ellen Madden both of Fayetteville, NC and Katie Maloy (Gavin) of Nashville, TN.

Mike grew up in Shorewood, WI and attended St. Robert’s Grade School as well as Marquette High School.  After graduating from college at St. Thomas, Mike went on to graduate school at Marquette University in Milwaukee where he received his Masters Degree in Finance.  He then began a 40 year career as a finance analyst with such companies as Honeywell, The St. Paul Companies, Dain Rauscher, The St. Paul Metropolitan Council and Dunwoody College.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman.  He loved winter camping in the Porcupine Mountains of Michigan, and trail running with friends in races throughout the Midwest.  He especially enjoyed hiking the Superior Hiking Trail along Lake Superior in northern Minnesota.

Mike was committed to volunteering his talents in the communities in which he lived and he was actively involved in Boy Scouts throughout his life.  He served as an Assistant Scout Leader at St. Odilia Parish in Shoreview, MN as well as Scout Master of Troop #132 at St. Croix Catholic School in Stillwater, MN for several years.  It was during this time that he saw his son, Dan, earn his rank as an Eagle Scout.  And, they both made lifetime memories during high adventure trips to Sea Base in Florida and The Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in NM.

Always a gentleman, Mike will be remembered for his integrity, kindness and positive attitude about life – even as he faced his cancer diagnosis and treatments.  He was the one everyone looked up to.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Stillwater, MN.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following at 10:00 a.m.  Private interment will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Bayport, MN.  A luncheon reception will then be held in the St. Michael’s Parish Social Hall.
