Michael Charles Rindal

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother

Died Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Michael was born April 16, 1939 in St. Paul, MN to Benjamin and Margaret (Ahrens) Rindal, and baptized at First Lutheran Church in St. Paul September 14, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mark. He is survived by wife Kay, daughter, Carrie; sons, Edgar (Kristen) and Don (Linda); favorite grandsons, Michael and Andrew Rindal; brothers, Terence (Diane), and James (Jean); many nieces and nephews; untold friends and colleagues, and his orange furry buddy, Tom. He was united in marriage with Kay Callaway on May 29, 1965. He taught sixth grade at Smith/North End Elementary School in St. Paul for 31 years, retiring young to enjoy a "second career" as a licensed part-time deputy for Ramsey County Sheriff. In that capacity he enjoyed patrolling the county parks and lakes, and teaching snowmobile, ATV, and firearm safety to hundreds of folks. He so enjoyed his outdoors time with many friends and relatives -- "going to the cabin," fishing and hunting, shooting at the range, riding motorcycle (even making long trips on motorcycle -- to Alaska). He traveled frequently, once to Alaska to "sit with the bears" at McNeill River, to Oberammergau for the 2000 Passion Play, to England with the Bethel University soccer team -- he was a quiet person with deep passion for a diverse body of interests and people. He was a Forerunner in 1961 for Holden Village in Chelan, WA, and kept a lifelong interest in this unique Christian retreat center. He was a dedicated Christian, active in church life most recently at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, St. Paul. He served in leadership roles in several churches, teaching and serving on many boards, and assisting in worship.
