Mikayela Christine Barden

Mikayela Christine Barden, 38, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN, with her family by her side.

Mikayela was born on October 24, 1986, in New Rockford, ND. She attended school in Carrington, ND, and Eagan, MN, before graduating from the SES in Apple Valley. Mikayela earned her bachelor's degree in geology from Gustavus in St. Peter, MN, and master's degree at Mankato College. Mikayela worked in various engineering roles across MN, where her passion for geology and the natural world shaped both her career and personal life.

Mikayela's love for ice skating began in high school and continued through college, where she helped establish the ice-skating club at Gustavus. Beyond skating, she loved camping, fishing, and connecting with nature. Whether fishing on open water or ice, Mik was a skilled angler. Her fascination with geology sparked lively conversations, where she delighted in sharing her knowledge about rocks and their origins.

Mikayela will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her parents, Clint (Lu) Munson and Dianne Hertel; her siblings, Todd (Sarah) Munson, Monica (Jeff) Larson, and Darrick (special friend Christin); and her many beloved nieces and nephews: Jadyn, Gavin, Owen, Fiona, Quinn, Blake, AJ, and Brianna; her devoted dog, Willow, her grandfather, Merle Munson, and her godparents, Darla Munson and Randy Munson. She is also survived by her former bonus kids, Shay and Bree Barden, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, "Gustie" gals, and friends.

Mikayela was embraced in heaven by her grandparents, Henry and Martha Tuenge, Eunice Munson, and her cousin, Courtney Nelson.

Mikayela faced her share of pain and sadness, but she is no longer suffering. She is at peace now, free from the struggles she endured. Mikayela's bright smile, infectious laugh, and beautiful kind soul will never be forgotten.

A memorial and prayer services will be held at Water's Edge Community, 15290 Farnham Ave N, Hugo, MN on March 16 at 4pm. Funeral services will be held on March 22 at 2pm, Grace Lutheran Church, Grace City, ND.
