Mildred Emma Stater
Stater, Mildred Emma (nee Martinek) Formerly of Bruno, Askov and Sandstone Died January 19, 2007 at the age of 97. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 20, 1909 to Frank Joseph and Emma Ressler Martinek. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Leslie Thomas Stater; son, Ressler; sisters, Martha Zebrasky and Udeta Rykel; brothers, Frank, Otto and Fredolin; nephews and nieces, Robert Martinek, John Zebrasky, Bernice Zebrasky Pitman, Hubert Martinek, Margaret Martinek Matykiewicz, Martin Rykel and Bernard Martinek. Mildred is survived by daughter, Florence of Oakdale; daughter-in-law, Esther Stater of Jerseyville, Illinois; grandsons, Bryan (Kim) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Bradley (Grace) of Eureka, Missouri, Brent (Molly) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; ten great-grandchildren, Lydia, John Ressler, Hannah, Allyson, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Joseph, Kyra, Sophie and Adam. Surviving niece and nephews, Dorothy Rykel Moses of Roseville, Donald Martinek of Cloquet, Richard Martinek of Shoreview, Wallace Martinek of Dassel and Arthur Kalafut of Fresno, CA, step-nephew. Mildred's parental family were early residents of Park Township, Bruno, MN. The family moved from St. Paul in October 1918 to begin farming and logging. There were few if any roads, no electricity or telephones. Mildred was a devoted wife and mother and delighted in the activities of her grandchildren and especially the great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, loved music, poetry, reading of all kinds and she loved to dance. She was active as an early participant in the 4-H program and later served as a local 4-H leader. Mildred was active in PTA and was an Askov High School Band Mother. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, January 26 at 10AM at GLORIA DEI LUTHERAN CHURCH, 700 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul. Visitation is one-hour prior the service, with a luncheon following the service. A graveside service is scheduled for 2:45PM at Bruno Cemetery, Bruno, MN and a 3:30PM gathering of family and friends at BETHELEM LUTHERAN CHURCH in Askov, MN. Memorials are preferred to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Askov, MN, The Leonard and Maxine Harkness Endowment Fund through the 4-H Foundation or the Minnesota 4-H Foundation.
