Age 68, of Stillwater, went home to the Lord on March 2, 2024.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Maureen; mother, Janet Zahler; stepsons, Nick (Zixin) Zahler and Chris Wilson; Sisters Michelle Volgren, Marsha Zahler and Melanie Zahler; grandson Jack; 6 nieces and nephews; 4 great nieces and nephew and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Zahler.
Mitch was born in Stillwater and raised on a dairy farm. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1973 and worked at Andersen Windows for over 30 years.
The most important things to Mitch were his faith, family, friends and flying followed closely by hockey. If you spent time with him, you knew by his words and actions how important these things were to him. He was genuine and authentic and was a “what you see is what you get” kind of guy.
Mitch loved life and embraced adventure. In his early years he competed in over 40 marathons and triathlons with his greatest achievement occurring in 1995 when he successfully finished the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii followed closely by completing an ultramarathon (100+ miles) in Death Valley, CA. A perfect day for him was playing hockey in the morning, enjoying lunch with family/friends and working on his airplane or flying his plane in the afternoon. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting in the Fall with his dog Sophie. He was loyal and dependable with a strong but quiet presence and a great sense of humor. His zest for life, smile, kindness and willingness to help will be missed by many.
We are heartbroken by his loss and can’t imagine life without him. We are comforted knowing that we will see him again.
A celebration of Mitch’s life will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 5th with visitation from 9-11 a.m. at Rockpoint Church (5825 Kelvin Ave. N., Lake Elmo). In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred. Those who would like to honor Mitch with a memorial contribution are asked to contribute to Liberty Classical Academy, 3878 Highland Avenue, White Bear Lake, MN 55110 to establish a scholarship in his name.
