Myrna Marie Gunderson, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 31st, 2024. Myrna was born to Grover Feist and Mae (Losey) Feist on November 8th, 1929, in Ogdensburg in Waupaca County, WI. At the age of 17 Myrna professed her faith in Jesus Christ through the friendship of two pastors' daughters of the Plainfield A/G church. To this day are close, she always considered them like sisters.
In 1949, Myrna enrolled in North Central Bible Institute where she met and married her husband of nearly 62 years, John Gunderson. In 1955, John and Myrna went into the ministry pastoring two churches in Wisconsin. Feeling God's calling to the Native American community, they applied for missionary appointment. That began almost 35 years pastoring to Native American people throughout the Midwest.
Myrna worked side by side with John in the ministry. Playing the piano, leading worship, hospitality and anything that needed to be done she did herself or organized a crew to get the job done. In her later years God continued to use her as she would pray and encourage many over the phone.
Illness forced them to retire from the Native American work in 1995 but not from the Lord's work. They continued serve on staff at two local churches until John passed and Myrna continues to serve on the MN district senior committee called 2nd Half Ministries up until the time of her death.
Since her husband's death, Myrna has had health and back issues and dealt with much pain. However, when her body slowed down her prayer life sped up! When she talked to God - heaven came down! She was not afraid to call the devil out for the liar he is, then proceed to quote scriptures and pray mercies, wisdom, knowledge & understanding to be in and on everyone she was interceding for! Her recliner was her 'War Room' and her daily prayer ritual began with her children and their families praying for each one by name. Then she proceeded to pray for her extended family that was pretty much everyone she has touched throughout the years! She would call you by name praying for God to move and strengthen you.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters: JoAnn Eldridge, Deanna (Michael)Paulson, Ruth Gunderson Bixby. She will also be missed by her grand-children: Micah (Laurie)Eldridge, Rebecca (Brandon)Hanna, Joanna(Evan) Pukal & Kelli (Micheal Kline) Bixby as well as her great-children: Eva, Titus & Maverick Hanna; Declan Pukal; John & Johana Kline. As a wife of a veteran of two foreign wars, she will be laid to rest with her husband at the Fort Snelling Cemetery at a later date. The Reviewal will be at 1pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 2pm located at Crowne Pointe Church, 7121 Bloomington Ave South, Richfield, MN on Monday, August 5th.
