Myrna Joyce Wilcox, 85, of South Minneapolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 3, 2024.
Myrna, often referred to as "Red" or "The Rose Amongst the Thorns", is proceeded in death by her husband of 42 years, Thomas Dale Wilcox; parents, Jens and Bertha; and siblings: Marlow, Wayne and Gordon. She is survived by her children: Patrick Wilcox, Tammy Wilcox, Linda Oveson and Terri Larkee (Todd); Four grandchildren: Jade, Paige (Sylvan), Cody (Angie) and Katelin (Rob); great grandchild: McKenna and a future grandchild who she had yet to meet; sister-in-law, Janet Jorgensen, and extended family.
Born on December 3, 1938 in Minneapolis to Jens and Bertha Jorgensen. She retired from the Minneapolis Public Schools after 28 years of service. She was an avid outdoors woman, enjoying time deer hunting and fishing, and treasured the time she spent with her family, friends and four-legged companions. Myrna will always be remembered for her kindness, for her love of the old neighborhood kids, for watching the world go by from her front porch view, and for being one tough cookie and fighting until the end. Her presence will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 1pm at the Bradshaw Funeral Home at 3131 Minnehaha Avenue South, Minneapolis. Visitation will be held one-hour prior to service (noon-1pm). Private burial at the Chicog town cemetary, in Minong, Wisconsin, at a later date.
