Orwin L. Carter

Age 82, of Stillwater, passed away peacefully at home with his family. Preceded in death by parents, Orwin “Louis” and Florence Carter; and his son, Jeffrey.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Anita; son, Steve (Rebecca); daughter-in-law, Shelly; grandchildren, Cassandra, Maia, Bryn, Jackson and Paige; nephew, Andrew and other family and friends.

He went to school via ROTC, earning a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Illinois, and taught at the USMC at West Point for three years.

Orwin was a very successful businessman, holding positions in management with Rohm and Haas, Becton Dickinson, as a Managing Director for Amersham, and as the CEO of INCStar, now Diasorin, in Stillwater. In his later years he served as the CFO of Hamline University and as a visiting professor at Wisconsin – River Falls. 

Orwin enjoyed playing bridge, becoming a Life Master in 2010, and serving as an election judge for many years. He was a long-time member of the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Stillwater for 38 years.

He will be sorely missed.

Service Saturday, February 1, 2025, 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, 813 Myrtle Street West, Stillwater. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Private interment Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Stillwater Sunrise Rotary.
