Paul Carlson

May 30, 1947 — November 10, 2024

Paul Allen Carlson

Age 77 of Eagan, passed away on Sunday, November 10th, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Stella Carlson.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pam; son Morgan (Kimberly); sisters Kay Watson, Lola (Peter) Latuff, and Zoma (Steve) Olson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Paul graduated from Iowa State University in 1969 and worked as an electrical engineer at Control Data and Rosemount Inc. for 20 years. He then moved to the City of Woodbury, working in the Parks department where he was dubbed "the Wiz" because of his problem solving. When he shifted to Public Utilities, he called himself a "Hydro Excrementalist," a much more fun way to describe working on sewer and water issues. Always fiercely independent, Paul became a courier, incorporating as Paul Carlson LLC. After years of avoiding moving into management, he was management as the president of his own company.

When Parkinson's Disease no longer allowed him to have a commercial driver's license, Paul retired and took up photography. His award-winning photos were displayed at numerous sites across the community. He was also an avid bowler, golfer and bicyclist, and a lifelong car enthusiast. He loved going to sports car races and working road rallies and he owned over 30 cars throughout his life. He was particularly a fan of Saabs (Saab story anyone?) and BMWs, most notably his Z3 convertible.

A gathering of family and friends will take place at Bradshaw Funeral Home, 4600 Greenhaven Drive, White Bear Lake, on Wednesday, November 20th at 2 pm, with visitation an hour prior. Memorials preferred to the Parkinson's Foundation.
