Paul A. Fusa (nee Fussa)
Aged 82 years, passed away on December 11, 2024, in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.
Paul grew up In New York City the devoted and beloved son of Rogelio and Hannah Fussa and the younger brother of Tony. His youth activities included serving as an altar boy, visiting family in Puerto Rico, editing newspaper sports stories, and running track. In the classroom, he was a superb student and won the history prize and the New York State Regents scholarship when he graduated from Power Memorial Academy high school.
After Power Memorial, Paul enrolled in Columbia University and, as someone who became a member of Mensa, his future was filled with promise. Unfortunately, mental health issues caused him to withdraw from Columbia. That led him to serving in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966. After his honorable discharge, Paul eventually earned his bachelor's degree from Columbia despite significant mental health issues.
In 1974, Paul moved to Minnesota to begin a journalism master's program at the University of Minnesota. Suffering from schizophrenia, Paul never completed the program. He lived almost all of the rest of his life in Minnesota, a state with understanding, compassionate, and supportive people. Schizophrenia left Paul unemployed and, at times, overshadowed his kind nature. Yet he soldiered on as best as he could and brought smiles to those who knew him.
Paul is survived by family in New York, Massachusetts, and Spain. With his passing, family members remember him with affection and pride and offer love and prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
