Peter Warner Fernstrum, 75, of Marine on St. Croix, MN, spirited away on May 31. 2018. He was preceeded in death by parents Carl and Wilma Fernstrum of Menominee, Michigan where Peter graduated from high school. After a year at Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida, he transferred to Northwestern University where he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor's Degree in finance and marketing. He worked for Zenith Radio Corporation in Chicago in product development until he returned to Menominee, MI to be president of the family firm, Menominee Boiler Works, a steel fabrication company started in 1872 by his great grandfather, Frans Gustaf Fernstrum, a Swedish immigrant. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary; children Wendy, Minneapolis, Peter and Stacie, Cary, NC, grandchildren Parker, Raleigh, and Halle, Cary; sister, Carlene Saxton Higley, Charles Higley Franklin TN; and many nieces and nephews. In retirement Peter truly enjoyed working outside, planning landscaping projects, burning prairie, trimming trees, improving Marine historical sites. A member of the Marine Planning Commission and the Christ Lutheran Church Council, Peter was a lifetime lover of lutefisk which he served every January at the annual church dinner. He never strayed far from water, piloting sail and power boats, paddling canoes and kayaks on big water and the St. Croix River. In winter when water froze, Peter delighted in riding the hills on skis and in warm breezes he ran and biked. Peter's celebration of life will take place on Friday, June 8th at Christ Lutheran Church,150 5th Street, Marine on St. Croix, MN 651-433-3222. Visitation will start at 10:15 with celebration at 11:00 and lunch to follow. Pastor Joel Martin will officiate.
