Phila Yang was the first Hmong to be born in the United States of America. He was born on May 14, 1976 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Nathan Yang and Shoua Lee Yang. Phila was the eldest of 5 children. He grew up in Warren, Michigan then moved to Minnesota in 2009.
It did not matter who you are or what socioeconomic status you came from, Phila treated everyone with love and respect. He always had that big smile on his face and greeted everyone with a big warm hug. His larger than life personality can brighten up anyone’s day. His departure is truly a great loss for us all but we know he is with our Heavenly Father.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Vang for 25 years of marriage and 4 children, Armin, Anna, Solace and Elsa; father, Nathan Yang; 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Linda, Pele, Stephanie and Tommy; and many more family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
