Age 88, Scientist, Naturalist Former Director, Science Museum of Minnesota Born December 16, 1921, in Mpls. Died January 30, 2010 after a life filled with curiosity, imagination, and enthusiasm. Served as a Marine Corps medic in the South Pacific 1942-1945. Degrees from Univ. of Minn, 1948 & 1952. Director, Science Museum of Minnesota, 1959-1991. Led the construction of the Science Museum building at 10th & Wabasha & formation of the Warner Nature Center, & St. Croix Valley Watershed Research Station. Pioneered the use of theater techniques in museums & installed the world's 2nd Omnimax Theater. An avid outdoorsman, Phil belonged to many civic organizations & was active in local government in Lakeland, where he lived on his beloved St. Croix. Phil was generous as a colleague, mentor, and friend. Children and animals loved him. Survived by his loving wife Molly, her 4 children & families, cousins, nieces & nephews. MEMORIAL SERVICE Fri., Feb. 12, 11 AM, Ascension Episcopal Church, 214 3rd St. N., Stillwater, reception following. Private burial.
