Rand L. Holmes

Age 74 of White Bear Lake passed away on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025.

He is preceded in death by his parents Veryl Adams and Arthur Holmes; and his brother Bradley Holmes.

He will be forever missed by his devoted wife of 40 years, Dianne; stepdaughter Vanessa Rousseau (Paul Buharin); grandson Nicholas Buharin; sisters Cynthia Holmes, Lauri (Dave) Andersen; stepfather Jerry Adams; stepmother Betty Holmes; and many other beloved family and friends.

Rand retired from Hennepin County in 2005 after nearly 30 years of service. Though the Holmes family has deep roots with their Chippewa/Ojibwe Native Heritage, Rand really came into his own when he started exploring his love of travel. He particularly enjoyed his many journeys to Europe and Hawaii, and you could find Rand and Dianne on a cruise ship more often than not until mobility limitations curtailed his adventures. He continued to travel vicariously through his love of reading, film, and music.

He had a lot of empathy for others, an excellent sense of humor, and an insatiable curiosity about the world.

He was an adoring husband to Dianne, a proud stepfather to Dr. Vanessa Rousseau, and a loving grandfather to Nicholas Buharin. The main comfort and happiness he drew from his life came from time spent with those he loved.

At Rand's request, there will be no formal service but his memory will be cherished by many.
