Retired 33 year Vo-Ag teacher and Colonel USMCR (Ret) with 42 years credit. Preceded in death by parents, Maurice and Ruth; first wife, Gloria Crews Anderson, second wife, Marion Erwin; stepsons, George Ness and Eric Johnson. Survived by wife Vivian Johnson; sister, Carolyn Johnson; daughter, Tammy McGlinnen-Willis (Brad Willis); step-children, CindaSue (Ron) Eggers, Mary Ness, Kathleen (Jim, deceased) Johnson, Kevin (Kathleen) Johnson, Kristin (Philip) Copeland; and 17 step-grandchildren. Marine veteran of WWII (9th MAW), Korea (2nd MarDiv), and Viet Nam (USAID Advisor). B.S. NDSU 1948, B.S. U of M 1954, M.A. U of M 1971. Honored by Who's Who Midwest and Who's Who among students in Am. Univ., Col. Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in America 2008 and 2009. Active editor, publisher, and photographer. Much international travel. Deep interest in genealogy and officer of Clan Irwin Assn. Thought to be descended from Sir Alexander Irvine, 10th Laird of Drum (d. 1658), Scotland. His high school student group (FFA) planted over 2 million seedling trees, thought to be a national record. Erwin received honorary FFA degrees in local, district, state, and national levels. Minnesota FFA Hall of Fame 2009. A funeral service will be held Monday, January 7th, 2019, 11 a.m. at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment at Fairview Cemetery to follow.
