Raymond "Ray" Carl Johnson

World War II Veteran
Passed away on April 5, 2018 at the age of 104. Preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Borghild Johnson; Ollie, loving wife of 63 years; son, Dwight (Jackie) Johnson; daughter, Rita Stepp; sisters, Grace, Betty, Helen, Dagney; brothers, Lloyd, Julius, Lawrence, Orville and Robert. Survived by son, Bruce (Jeanne) Johnson; grandchildren, Scott (Mary) Johnson, Todd (Kathe) Johnson, Darin (Stephanie) Johnson, Brad (Kate) Johnson, Brett Johnson, and Chelsie (Marc) Nicholson; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Even though he was born in Mellen, WI, he spent most of his childhood in the Billings Park neighborhood of Superior, WI. In August of 1941, he married Ollie Slettum before going off to serve in World War II. After Ray's return from military service, the family relocated to Saint Paul's East Side where they would raise their three children and spend their retirement. Ray enjoyed following the Twins and Vikings, singing, playing his ukulele, playing cribbage and reminiscing about his childhood. Family and friends will miss his laugh, sense of humor and gentle heart. The family would like to thank the amazing caregivers from St. Croix Hospice and Cerenity Marian Care Center for embracing Ray and filling his final days with dignity and compassion. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 28th at 12PM at THE BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd., Stillwater, MN. Visitation will be held at 11AM with a reception to follow the service. Memorials preferred to St. Croix Hospice or Cerenity Marian Care Center.
