The Reverend Richard Louis Gerard (also known as Father Louie) was an Episcopal Priest for over 30 years. Most recently he served Holy Communion Church in St Peter, and St Peter's Church in New Ulm, MN. Born in Woodbury, New Jersey in 1938 he spent most of his life on the East Coast. He earned his undergraduate degree from American University in Washington DC and his graduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He then graduated from General Seminary in New York City and went on to serve four parishes in Pennsylvania and Maryland before moving to Minnesota in 1993. He retired in 2003. He devoted his life helping to provide food and affordable housing for the poor and to ensure education was available to children of all ages. During his career, he celebrated many weddings and baptisms as well as helping people navigate life's challenges. His commitment to serve God and all people was well known and loved. He was a loving husband, supportive father, grandfather and great- grandfather and consensus builder in every parish community. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carolyn Joy; children, Shelley (Robin) Bailey and Nate (Jill); grandchildren, Kyla, Alison and Benjamin; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Madison and Taya; brother, Mike Gerard. Memorial service 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 2 at ASCENSION EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 214 North Third Street, Stillwater. Memorials can be given to Episcopal Relief & Development, P.O.
