Richard “Dick” Austin age 88, of Maplewood, MN passed away peacefully on December 10, 2020.  Dick was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Anne Austin.  He is survived by his children Kathy (Jeff) Blanck, Sue (Dave) Johnson, Marty (Jenny), Steve (Kathy); 8 grandchildren Brandi (Gerald) Manning, Dani (Alex) Yermolenko, Jason Blanck, Jamie (Ryan) Reis, Sam (Lauren) Austin, Gina (Daniel) Garcia Aguilar, Eric (Taylor) Austin, Nicole Johnson; 5 great grandchildren Jordon Manning, Ashton Reis, Valentina Yermolenko, Colter Austin and Mateo Johnson Ramirez.

Dick was born in Sauk Centre, MN and grew up in Little Canada.  He graduated from St. Paul Johnson High School in 1951 and then served in the US Marine Corp. from 1952 – 1955 during the Korean War.  Dick married Sharon Olson in 1955 and raised four children in St. Paul.  He attended the University of MN and received an Associate in Arts degree before joining the St. Paul Fire Department in 1958, where he was a fireman for his whole career.

He did carpentry work for a side job, following in the footsteps of his father. After retiring from the St. Paul Fire Department Dick received his Captain’s License from the US Coast Guard in 1983 and was a commercial fishing guide for three years on Lake Michigan.

Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and spending time with family and friends including helping them with their building and renovation projects. He leaves behind a legacy of loved ones who will miss his smile, sense of humor and countless fishing stories.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am Friday, December 18 at St. John the Evangelist, 380 Little Canada Rd E, Little Canada, MN, with visitation one hour prior.
