Richard Louis Cain passed away peacefully in the company of his family on March 31, 2025, from lung disease. Richard was born in Syracuse, NY, the third child of Dorothy and Desmond Cain. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 57 years, Barbara, as well as his sons Rick Cain, Joshua (Jill Lipski) Cain and Jesse (Molly Page) Cain. His grandchildren include Justin, Alexander (Adriana Prieto) and Miranda Cain; Ciara and Cian Cagemoe; Dot Lipski Cain; Eliot and Cedar Cain. Richard is also survived by his sister, Mary Margaret (James) Shannon. He has many nieces and nephews including Kelly Walsh (Norm Robinson), Erin Shannon, Eric (Ronnie) Cain, Sara (Rob) Cuccio, Colin (Jaime) Cain, and Jessamyn (Jamie) Guiver as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Rich was preceded in death by his sons, Patrick Sean Cain and Brian Christopher Cain, his brothers Desmond Joseph Cain Jr and Cyril Frances Cain and his parents Desmond and Dorothy Cain.
Richard graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering, (MSOE), in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, earning a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1969. Following college, the family moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where Rich had a long career working for various companies in the area of computer science, which was his passion. These included the Control Data Corporation at the Arden Hills Complex in the Special Engineering Department and Computer Network Technology.
After retirement, Rich continued to serve others, driving the elderly and mobility challenged for First Transit in the Twin Cities Metro area. He enjoyed sharing company and conversations with his clients.
Rich was a generous friend, dad and husband. His favorite role was as guide and mentor for his sons and grandchildren, leading by example with kindness and generosity of spirit. His loss is deeply felt, and we are better for having shared our lives with him. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
