Richard "Dick" Hanson, age 84 of Arden Hills, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2022 after living with illness for a few years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Emma; siblings, Lawrence, Joseph.
Raised in Alexandria and graduated from St. John’s University, Dick spent his career as a computer programmer with Univac/Unisys. Dick loved Minnesota and all of its seasons. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting up north, camping in the BWCAW, water sports and skiing here and in the mountains, all with family and friends. He took on leadership roles within his ski club. He practiced his faith and was an active member at St. Odilia’s Catholic Church, singing in the choir for many years. He loved to help the underdog, looking out for those less fortunate. He was a steward of his community, serving as treasurer of his community lake association.
He will be deeply missed by those who survive him: his wife of 50 years, Judith; children, Carolyn (Donald) Freitag, Elizabeth (Eric) Schumacher, Patricia Hanson; grandchildren, Mabel, Arthur, Fredrick, Stuart, and another on the way; siblings, William (Patricia), Charles (Sheryl), Mary Bozzo, Ann Whittet; many nieces and nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am on Wednesday, May 4 at ST. ODILIA CATHOLIC CHURCH, 3945 Victoria St N, Shoreview. Visitation will be 4-8pm, Tuesday, May 3 at BRADSHAW, 4600 Greenhaven Dr, and one hour prior to service at church. Interment at St. Odilia Prayer Garden. Memorials preferred to a charity of donor’s choice.
