A young life ends too soon, but leaves a rich legacy of life and travel.
Richard Hooley, 29 years old from Stillwater, Minnesota, drowned in a river while camping in a wilderness area outside of St. Petersburg, Russia, on July 8, 2007. Richard was completing his second year of teaching English in Russia when his life ended tragically.
His educational degrees include a Master?s Degree in European Studies from the Universiteit van Amsterdam in The Netherlands and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamline University in St. Paul, including studies at University College Cork at Cork, Ireland. He was a 1996 graduate of Stillwater Area High School in Stillwater, Minnesota.
A memorial service for the life of Richard Hooley was held in St. Petersburg, Russia, at the Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 14, 2007.
Survivors include mother and father, Sharon and Dennis Hooley of Stillwater, MN, sister, Rebecca Hooley of Denver, CO, grandmother, Anna Hooley of Stillwater, MN, aunts Marilee Mowry of Stillwater, MN, and Suzanne Mowry (Max Frei) of Stillwater, MN, uncle John Hooley (Jean Hooley) of Rice Lake, WI and cousins, Kristine, Debra, and Daniel.
Services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 115 North Fourth Street, Stillwater, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 9:00 ? 11:00 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m. A processional to the graveside will be followed with lunch back at the church.
