Richard Louis Kortus

Age 73, of Stillwater, passed away from heart failure on March 20, 2025. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Rebecca; daughter, Raina Rosarno; and grandchildren, Rachael and Michael.

Richard is also survived by eight heart-broken siblings who will greatly miss their brother: Steve (Teresa), Lee Ann (Larry) Mjolsness, Diane (Vic Anthony), Dan (Jody), Tom (Sue), Jim (Nickie), Donna (Lee) Neihart and Trisha Schlingman. He will also be missed by sister-in-law Pam Ford, brother-in-law Stephen Groth and step-siblings Frank McLeod, Shawn McLeod (Dan Bresnahan) and Sheri McLeod.

Richard was adored by his many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his kindness, commitment to his large, extended family and his big, emotional hugs that made you feel like you were the most loved person in the world.

A native of Maplewood, Richard was the second oldest of 10 children born to Donald and Gloria Kortus (both deceased). Richard's sister, Karen Blackbird, died in 2023, and his step-mother, Bettye Kortus, died earlier this year.

Richard and Rebecca lived in the St. Croix Valley since they married in 1978. Richard loved the beauty of the river, the charm of its towns and the area's unique history. He worked for Lindus Construction for 22 years, selling LeafGuard Gutters until retiring in 2018.

Richard enjoyed flowers and gardening. He was especially proud of his summer container gardens and his large cactuses, which he hauled inside every winter. He also loved music of all kinds, evening cocktails with Rebecca and always appreciated a good bottle of red wine.

A private family memorial service will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bradshaw Funeral Home, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater, MN 55082, where cards can be sent to the family.
