Age 73, died at home on May 10, a man of great charm, grace and wit. He was the beloved husband of Mitzi (52 years), loving father of Lizzie (Danny), Sam (Sonja) and Helen (Mitch); doting grandfather of Artie, Ted, Fritz, Oliver and Gus. He is survived by brother Randy and sister Janet, and many nieces and nephews.
Rick was a graduate of Macalester College and the University of Iowa College of Law. He had a 39 year career with Thomson Reuters (West Publishing). His hard work, insight and intellect made him a respected leader who built relationships, many of which grew to be close friendships.
Rick brought joy to those who knew him. He loved cooking for family and friends, his generosity extending to anyone wanting or needing a meal. He loved music, books, adventures of travel and making cakes.
Rick was a spiritual man, a thinker, a man who loved to laugh, and listen to and tell stories. His calm and gentle nature made him a natural teacher. For many years he taught Junior High and High School Sunday School at Ascension Episcopal Church. Through short stories, essays and discussions, Rick engaged young people and made spirituality relevant to their own lives.
Rick lived each day to the fullest, encouraging and embracing others to do the same. He loved hiking in Afton State Park with his dog, Sugar, where they walked through the grasslands and along the St. Croix River. More than anything he loved his family who will continue to hold on to great memories, laugh and celebrate life.
Service to be held at Ascension Episcopal Church in Stillwater June 1 with visitation at 12:00pm, service at 1:00pm.
