Richard "Dick" Stoner, 91 of Stillwater, MN, passed away on May 29, 2024 while under hospice care at the Estates at Greeley. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota on November 13, 1932, to Hjalmer and May Stoner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Richard Warren Stoner.
Dick was a graduate of Hibbing High School and attended Hibbing JC before earning a BA in Business and Botany in 1955 from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. After graduation, Dick joined the Navy and qualified for Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island in March 1956.
From 1956 to 1958, Dick served his country on an ammunition ship with tours of duty in the Pacific. In 1958, Dick was transferred to the Office of Naval Intelligence in Chicago, IL and was honorably discharged in 1961. Dick moved on to build a career in sales for the CE&I Railroad, Honeywell and Rogness Equipment Company, retiring in 1997 after 25 years of employment.
An ever-enthusiastic historical train and streetcar fan, Dick was an avid collector-builder of model trains. He enjoyed gardening and was very proud of the wildflowers he grew in the back woods when he lived in Mounds View, MN. A trustee of the Methodist Church and Care Crew volunteer, Dick helped others in need by driving members and local residents to appointments, shopping, etc. He never turned down an invitation to join friends for coffee and sweets and was always open to tackle any kind of project whether a home repair, car repair or even rebuilding a car engine.
Dick is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughter Susie (Alec) Charais, stepchildren, Susan (Dodie), Steven and Patrick (Jennifer) Quigley, four step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren as well as other cherished family members.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Monday, August 12, 2024 at Bradshaw Funeral Home, 4600 Greenhaven Drive, White Bear, MN 55127. Visitation at 10am. Service at 11am with a reception to follow.
