Richard "Butch" Lewis Thul
Age 86 of Vadnais Heights. Passed away peacefully January 1, 2025 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Preceded in death by his wife Marlene; parents Wallace and Mildred Thul; brother Ken; sister Marlys Laubach. He is survived by his loving children, Richard (Dorie), Cathy (Joe) Ferrazzo, David (Karin); 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne (Pam) and Tom (Janet); and special friend Barb Arcand.
After a short stint as a truck driver, Dick joined the St. Paul Fire Department in 1963. He enjoyed his job and eventually rose to the rank of Captain before retiring in 1988. He also used his endless energy on side jobs. He built garages, performed handy man duties, bought and sold cars and fixed air conditioners. On top of that he co-founded a business that created registration tools for City Parks and Recreation Departments across the U.S.
After he retired, he and Marlene traveled the country before landing at Carefree Country Club in Winterhaven, FL where they would spend their winters until Marlene passed away in 2019. He was proud of his involvement with Carefree where he was President of Activities amongst other things.
In his later years, he focused on spending time with his family, and was very proud of all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service Saturday, January 11, 11:00 A.M. at BRADSHAW, 4600 Greenhaven Drive, White Bear. Visitation one hour prior. Private burial will take place at a later date at Roselawn Cemetery.
Memorial preferred to American Cancer Society and Tunnel to Tower Foundation.
