Richard And Joyce Koenig

It is with both sadness and peace that we announce the passing of our mother Joyce Ann Koenig (Poole) age 89, on Jan 25, and our father Richard Joseph Koenig age 90, on Jan 28, 2022.

Residents of Stillwater, MN, they began their journey when they met in St Paul in 1952. On leave from the USMC, (we've been told), Joyce "the cute blonde in the green sweater," and Dick "the tall handsome one in his uniform," they loved to dance the lindy hop, and so it began...

Dick was a sergeant honorably discharged in October, 1952, having served and fought during the Korean War. They were married June 13,1953, together 68 years.

Dick joined the St Paul Fire Dept in July, 1962, proudly giving 26 1/2 years of service, retiring in December, 1988.

They enjoyed bowling, camping and motorcycle road trips attending rendezvous (with mother sewing their deerskin outfits). Dad's interests were hunting, fishing, and raising his beloved golden retrievers. Watching sports was a favorite pastime, but his biggest smiles were when he was with his children grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom, an avid seamstress, enjoyed making all our clothes when we were young. She was a nurses aide at St John's Hospital, loved cooking, and was always up for a trip to California, Texas, Mexico and anywhere in between. She was active in church, and a member of Red Hat.

Our parents are lovingly remembered for living out their commitment to one another and our family. Their legacy for us to pass on is honesty, hard work, sacrifice and faithfulness to family and friends.

They are survived by 7 children and spouses, 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Dick and Joyce's life will be Sunday, February 13, 2022, 2:00 P.M. at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard, Stillwater with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
