Hayner, Robert W.
"Skip"
Beloved husband and father
Rob died peacefully, at the age of 90, on July 18, 2014. He was a life-long resident of the St. Croix Valley, a University of Minnesota graduate, and a World War II Army veteran who was stationed in China, Burma, and India. After the war ended, Rob became a proud member of the Bayport American Legion. He had a career spanning 37 years at Andersen Windows. Like many who were raised during the Depression, Rob was not afraid of hard work. When his day was over at Andersen's, he would head to his second job as a Projectionist at the movie theater in Stillwater. He was also employed, during the tax season, by the State of Minnesota. Rob and Doris, his wife of 65 years, raised five children in Bayport, MN. As a family, they enjoyed many trips throughout the USA in their trusty station wagon. When their children were older, Rob and Doris enthusiastically traveled the world. Rob was an avid golfer, gardener, and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles with Doris. His volunteer work included organizing the Bayport Red Cross Blood Drive, delivering Meals On Wheels, and collecting newspapers for the Boy Scouts. Rob was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Armedia; son, Kevin (Debbie); sisters, Dorothy Riedel, Helen Bonse Schwalen, Phyllis Bell, Bonnie Jean Warman; and brother, Richard Hayner. He is survived by, Doris; brother, Donald (JoAnn) Hayner; children, Mary, Chris (Sarah), David (Sandra), Nancy (Joseph); grandchildren, Ellen (Craig), Greta (Chris), Caitlin, Tom, Cary, Wyatt, John; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Charles Church, 409 3rd Street North, in Bayport, at 11am, on Saturday, August 9, 2014. A gathering will follow in the church basement. Instead of flowers, a donation to Sharing and Caring Hands would be greatly appreciated. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
