Robert Healy

Healy, Robert "Bob/Boots" Hicok Age 84, longtime Minneapolis resident, died peacefully on Sunday evening, July 12, 2020 at Breck Homes, Bloomington, MN. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Colleen, daughter Elizabeth Ann "Liz" (1959-1980), parents, Katherine Hicok and John Dee Healy, and siblings Tim, John (Jake) and Peter (Becca).

Bob was born December 11, 1935 in Houghton, MI. He attended St. Ignatius Catholic School, Houghton High School (1953) and University of St. Thomas (1957). He met Colleen on a blind date his freshman year of college and knew he'd found his soulmate. When Bob was drafted by the U.S. Army and sent to Germany, Colleen joined him and they married there, returning to the U.S. two years later with their first of five daughters.

The couple settled in Minneapolis and had four more daughters. Fresh from the Army, Bob joined the investment department of IDS/American Express/Ameriprise and subsequently rose from investment analyst to head of research to sr. equity portfolio manager and VP. Along the way he earned his MBA from the University of MN, and became a CFA Charterholder and early member of the Twin Cities Society of Security Analysts, (nka, CFA Society MN).

As longtime members of Annunciation Church, Bob and Colleen were regular volunteers, participating in Sunday school leadership, volunteering to serve for funeral lunches and influencing, motivating and supporting youth, Mission Haiti and the Church in quiet, unassuming ways.

Though successful and highly regarded for his professional endeavors and volunteer commitments, Bob had a wide array of interests, and especially enjoyed being outdoors and traveling domestically and abroad. He and Colleen always were up for active adventure, whether it be biking across the country, RV'ing around Lake Superior, walking across England, sailing the Apostle Islands or hiking the Camino De Santiago. In 1965, in Eagle Harbor, MI, at the annual extended family gathering, Bob and three of his brothers grew their love of gathering for fun and beer into The International Frisbee Tournament, which continues today at locations worldwide. He was a gifted writer and storyteller, with a quick wit and dry delivery. He adored his grandchildren and delighted in being in their presence.

Bob is survived by four of his five daughters: Katherine "Kit" (Rick Kahlow), Sheila (Brian) Berube, Mary and Ann Marie (Bryan Mealer), grandchildren: John, Elizabeth "Ellie" and Katherine "Kitty" Berube, and Nolan, Evelyn "Evvie" and Frances "Franny" Mealer. He also is survived by siblings Mary Mentink of Northfield MN and Mike Healy of Hailey, ID, along with numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
