Robert Bruce Melin was born July 28, 1925 to Dorothy (Dorrie) Ham Melin and John Nels Melin in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He attended Garfield Elementary School and Central High School graduating in 1943. Upon graduation he entered the Army Air Corps and did his basic training in Missouri. Robert was discharged from the Army Air Corps in 1945. He then attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota and later transferred to the University of Wyoming graduating in 1951. He and his mother Dorrie spent three months in England visiting her family. Robert then entered the arena of working at the Arms Plant in Grand Island, Nebraska, Boeing Air Craft Plant in Kansas, Ford Motor Company, 3M and Imation in St. Paul. He retired in 1997 after working for 42 years.

Robert and Virginia Green met in Grand Island and were married August 21, 1954 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Seward, Nebraska. They lived in White Bear Lake for 36 years and attended St. John in the Wilderness Church where Bob was Junior Warden, Senior Warden, Lay Reader, Property Chairperson, Choir Member and Chairperson in Charge of the Episcopal Cemetery. In 1990 they built a home in Grant Minnesota and enjoyed country living. They then attended Ascension Episcopal Church in Stillwater.
