Preceded by parents, Rudy and Ernestine Schmidt; brother, William Schmidt and followed by his son Robert M. Schmidt on January 29, 2014. Survived by wife, Phyllis Schmidt (Franklin); daughter Barbara (James Persoon) Schmidt; daughter-in-law Lori Schmidt and grandson Mark Schmidt. Bob was born and raised on the East Side of St. Paul and was a graduate of Johnson High School and Macalester College. He dedicated his career to 3M Company, retiring after 35 years in human resources management. Bob proudly served his country during World War II in the 96th Infantry Division, notably at the pivotal battles of Leyte and Okinawa. Bob was an avid golfer who loved his church, his family and a wonderful life filled with friends, laughter and many travels. Bob's life will be celebrated at a memorial service Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM at ARLINGTON HILLS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1115 Greenbrier Street, St. Paul. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Private interment at Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Arlington Hills Lutheran Church.
