Roger Erwin Groth
Age 82, Roger passed away peacefully at home on August 30, 2022, and rejoined his beloved wife Sharon, at heaven's gate. Roger spent 79 of his 82 years in Afton, farming alongside his father at first and later establishing his own dairy farm. Roger attended the one-room school house that was located directly across from the property that became his farm. He then went on to the big city of Stillwater for high school, graduating in 1958. He was very active in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and became president of that association. A quiet man, it is amazing to learn that at 17 he won a speech contest that awarded him a train trip to Chicago.
He is survived by his children, Kimberly Groth, Matt (Julie Kestner) Groth, Dean Roufs, David (Renae) Roufs, Dale (Stacey) Roufs, honorary son, Charlie (Danielle) Wamstad; grandchildren, Sara and Bryce Roufs; sister Janice (Dan) Meier, niece Shannon (Mike) Maron; life-long friend Terry Morris, and many family and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his wife Sharon in June, and his parents, Erwin and Marguerite Groth.
Please join us for his memorial service which will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 24th at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 880 Neal Ave South, Afton, with visitation one hour prior.
