Loving father, selfless dad, fun-loving grandpa, dedicated brother and uncle, generous friend.

Passed away at home January 17, 2004, three days after his seventieth birthday, surrounded by his family. Ron survived a battle with bladder cancer but lost a sudden and extremely painful battle with Mesothelioma.

He was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota on January 13, 1934; served four years in the US Air Force and retired from Otis Elevator Company in 1992 after 30 years of dedicated service.

Waiting for him in heaven are his parents, Hugh and Olga (Rahn) Lau; brothers, Kenneth, Harry and Walter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Lucy Scalise; and very special little niece, Angela Marie Toronto.

Ron leaves behind his wife and best friend of 40 years, JoAnn; daughters, Laurie (Tom) Poggi of San Francisco, Lonie (Rodger) Nelson of Woodbury, and Melani (John) Hause of St. Paul; grandchildren, Taylor and Spencer Nelson, and Lucy Hause; sisters, Evelyn Vober of Bloomington and Ruth (Charles) Long of Los Angeles; brother, Martin of Grand Rapids; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Peggy Toronto of St. Paul.

A celebration of Ron's life and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 6:30 PM, Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1550 Summit Avenue, St. Paul, with visitation beginning at 3:30 PM until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Immaculate Heart of Mary. Private interment at Elmhurst Cemetery, St. Paul.

Ron's good humor, words of experience and encouragement, mischievous blue eyes, easy smile and big hugs will be missed.
