Starr, Ronald Merrill
Age 87, of Minneapolis, passed away on March 6, 2014. Ron was born in the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis on November 4, 1926. Preceded in death by mother, Garda (Ostboe) Starr (born in Harstad, Norway) and father, Robert Starr. Ron attended Minneapolis West High School and at the age of 17 joined the U.S. Navy in WWII. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and the Army ROTC program, served in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant and later the Army Reserve. Ron was a locomotive engineer with Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad and retired after 44 years. Ron had many interests. He was a Boy Scout Scoutmaster and senior leader in the Civil Air Patrol, raced his sailboat on Lake Calhoun, was an avid reader, sang in several church choirs, and was an active member of Mindekirken. Ron was a caring husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Mumm) Starr; sons, Mark (Suzanne), Eric (Sue), Stephen (Lorna); grandchildren, Troy, Julia, Grant, Logan, Carson; sister, Alison Starr; brother, Gerald Starr and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on WEDNESDAY, March 12, 2014 at 11 AM at THE NORWEGIAN LUTHERAN MEMORIAL CHURCH, "MINDEKIRKEN," 924 E 21st St., Minneapolis with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A private family interment at Immanuel Methodist Cemetery on 101st Ave. N., Maple Grove, MN, will follow the funeral service.
