Ronald "Ron" Filip Swanson
Age 84 of Shoreview, MN, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18th 2025.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sven Olaf Gösta Swanson and Gunhild Elvera Swanson (née Carlson); and his sister, Lorraine Elizabeth Fowler (née Swanson).
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn Ruth Swanson (née Egeland); children, Neil Filip (Lourdes Aguirre), Karl Olaf (Susan), Heather Lyn (Jason) Schmidt; grandchildren, Erik (Kinsey), Remiko, Peter (René), Greta, Brooke (Dylan), Thomas (Cara), Mamiko, Luke, Lars, Anders; great grandson, Leif; Sister Janet Louise; Brother in law David Fowler; and many other beloved family and friends.
Ron was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 19, 1941 to Sven and Gunhild Swanson. He graduated high school from Floral Park High School in Long Island, NY. After he graduated high school he attended M.I.T. University and then Bethel University where he earned his bachelor's degree in Chemistry and where he met his wife Marilyn. He went on to earn his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.
Ron had a successful career in corporate finance. His work took him around the world as he held responsibilities that at one time included oversight of finance for operations in Eastern Asia for Richardson-Vicks.
A life-long sports enthusiast, Ron's passion for sports started with stickball as a kid in Brooklyn and cheering for the Dodgers. As he went on to high school he earned varsity letters in Track & Field and Basketball. He went on to compete collegiately for Bethel as a member of their Track & Field team. He coached Little League baseball and was hard-pressed to ever miss one of his kids' or grandchildren's games. In his final 18 years living in Shoreview, he was the most dedicated supporter of Bethel athletics, attending games of all sports and watching on-line if he wasn't there in person.
Ron had a deep appreciation for classical music, especially Bach and organ concerts.
In addition to much travel for various job positions he held, Ron enjoyed traveling with Marilyn and taking family trips. His travels collectively took him to every continent except Antarctica. Favorite spots were visiting relatives in Sweden, many trips to the United Kingdom, and family summer vacations to Camp of the Woods in the Adirondacks, NY.
His presence will be profoundly missed by his family and friends, who will remember him for his unwavering dedication and love. His family is comforted by the knowledge that through his deep faith they know he will eternally be at peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A service celebrating Ron's life will take place at 2pm, on Saturday, May 10th, at Calvary Church, 2120 Lexington Ave N, Roseville, MN. There will be a time for gathering of friends and family beginning at 1pm.
Memorial donations may be made in Ron's name to Bethel University and Calvary Church in Roseville.
