Ruth Marie Roth (Grove) of St. Paul, MN passed away peacefully on March 25th, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was 91. Ruth was born to the late Dora and Clarence Grove in St. Paul, MN. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Melvin and her sister Caryl. Survived by her children: Ronald (Margaret) Roth, Caryl (Larry) Abdo, Sheila (Gerry) O'Brien, Wendy (Curt) Schlenner, Carrie (Tim) Frantzich; her beloved grandchildren: Michael (Beth) Roth, Lainie (Karl) DeBoer, Amanda (William) Sheahan, Paul (Kristen) Abdo, John and Corey Abdo, Philip (Anne) O'Brien, David (Elizabeth) O'Brien, and Michael O'Brien, Andrea (Paul) Friend, Robert (Meredith) Schlenner, Zebulon, Jonah, Esther, and Svea Frantzich; and her great-grandchildren: Drake, Olivia, and Natalie Roth, Grace and Emma DeBoer, William O'Brien, Lillian and Oliver Abdo, and Hannah Friend. Also loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Ruth graduated from Johnson High School in 1938. In 1943 she received a degree in Public Health Nursing from the University of Minnesota and was a member of the first class of the Nursing Corps. She married Melvin Roth in 1944 and they made their home on the East Side of St. Paul. Ruth was an active member of Arlington Hills Lutheran Church for 66 years. She was a dedicated and respected leader; Ruth was a lifelong member the The Alvaradians Club. Served as President of both the Christian Women's Club and the Monday Literary Club. She was also an active member of the St. Paul Jaycees, St. Paul Athletic Club, Hillcrest Country Club, and Midland Hills Country Club. She frequently volunteered her nursing skills in immunization clinics and blood drives. In 1981 Melvin and Ruth began wintering in Bradenton, FL and became an active part of the El Conquistador community. Together they enjoyed playing golf, making new friends, and participating in social events. They were faithful members of the St. Armands Key Lutheran Church. In 2001, Ruth moved to St. Andrews Village and spent 10 years creating new friendships with neighbors and staff and rekindling old friendships with childhood companions 70 years later. Ruth's life revolved around family, faith, friendship, and service. She was a true servant of her Lord and found countless ways to share God's word with others. Many friends and relatives were beneficiaries of her casserole and peanut butter bar ministry. She will be forever remembered for her generous spirit, her loyal friendship, and her unwavering moral compass. Ruth's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Waverly Gardens and Health Partners Hospice, in particular Chaplain Bruce Nelson. Their compassion, support, and generous hearts helped make Ruth's transition comfortable, peaceful and surrounded by love. The visitation will be Tuesday March 27th, 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Bradshaw Funeral Home, 4600 Greenhaven Dr., White Bear Lake, MN, also one hour prior to the service at church. Funeral service is Wednesday March 28th, 11:00 a.m. at Arlington Hills Lutheran Church, 1115 Greenbrier, St. Paul, MN. Private interment at Roselawn Cemetery.
