Scott Carl Casebolt, age 60 of Lakeland, MN passed away peacefully on January 29, 2018 from complications associated with a failing heart, surrounded by family. Born January 20, 1958 in Los Altos, California, the second youngest child of four of Wayne C. Casebolt and Barbara J. Van Dyke Casebolt. Scott and his siblings were raised in the San Francisco Bay area of California, until the family moved to Miami, Florida in 1973.
With two older brothers, Scott was determined to keep up and possessed a highly competitive spirit. He would ski faster, catch more fish and find more Easter Eggs. Scott loved nature and was at home in the outdoors, often backpacking by himself to remote areas of Wyoming's Wind River Range to fly fish. Intelligent and precise, with a keen eye for detail and a natural artist, he enjoyed creative perfection.
Scott graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado in 1981 and began his professional career as a civilian engineer working for the US Navy in Honolulu, Hawaii. Getting restless after living on an island for several years, Scott accepted an engineering position with a manufacturer of safety equipment located in Red Wing, Minnesota. Scott proved to be a brilliant mechanical engineer and over his 30+ year career was credited with the successful filing of hundreds of US patents for fall protection devices. Scott retired two years ago to concentrate on his health and pursue his other interests.
Scott cherished life and woke up every morning looking forward to a great day. He is survived by his two brothers, Van W. Casebolt and Kurt W. Casebolt; his younger sister, Susan B. Casebolt Price; longtime friend Jeannie Smekofski, and an extended family. Scott was a wonderful man who lived his life true to himself. A devoted son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend, he was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
