Roberts, Scott
It is with deep sadness that I share that Scott Roberts passed away on May 10, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Scott, who founded St. Paul based real estate company Roberts Development Co., passed away at the age of 63 after a 6 year battle with Frontal Temporal Lobe Dementia.
Scott's first exposure to real estate was working for his father Donald Roberts with Roberts Properties Co. before he founded the St. Paul based real estate firm Roberts Development Co. in 1983. Since then he acquired and developed over $100 million worth of commercial real estate. Scott left his mark in so many communities in the Twin Cities. He loved what he did in part because it gave him the opportunity to make a difference in people's lives. Scott also loved investing and owning various private companies including partnering to purchase Sun Country Airlines out of bankruptcy in 2001 and selling it in 2006.
To honor Scott's wishes and to commemorate his vision and passion that made Roberts Development Co. what it is today, we will continue to proudly operate as Roberts Development Co./Roberts Management Group and to continue to be incredibly conscious of doing right by our tenants and the communities we are so grateful to be a part of. It wasn't enough for him to create vibrant buildings; he believed that we have an obligation to do what we can to help make the world a better place, starting right here in the communities we are a part of and while he cared about our buildings, what he really loved, was the people that lived and worked in, and around our properties.
Perhaps more importantly, Scott was a wise and intelligent leader, a beloved friend and great father. Scott was well known for leaving work early on Fridays during the summer to take his kids to the cabin. Scott imparted his passion for the outdoors on his kids, including many memories of fishing in Canada, boating in Florida and snowmobiling, four wheeling, hunting deer, ducks and pheasants on the family Ranch.
In his honor, we will continue our dedication to the clients of Roberts Management Group, but henceforth with a little more push as we carry on Scott's legacy. Furthermore, The Roberts offices will be closed the week of May 28th as we honor the life of Scott W. Roberts and what he built and has trusted in us to continue.
Scott is survived by his brother, Steve Roberts of Ely, MN; the love of his life, Penny Roberts; three children, Nicholas S. Roberts (31) of White Bear Lake, Anna-Marie S. Hilleren (29) of Richville, MN, and Kristin H. Roberts (21) of Queensbury, New York; and four grandchildren, Jaxon (4) & Mack (2) Hilleren and Benjamin (11) & Madilynn (9) Roberts.
Please join us for a visitation with time for sharing food and memories from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 & Cty Rd 5), Stillwater. The visitation will be followed by a Memorial Service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of sending money or flowers please consider making a donation in Scott's honor to the Roberts Family Foundation (1851 Buerkle Road White Bear Lake, MN 55110) or please consider sending a potted tree to the Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center in Stillwater. Scott loved the outdoors and had a passion for planting trees. In the days following the service the family looks forward to planting all of the saplings in Scott's honor.
