Sheena Margaret Tomney
Proud of being a Scot, Sheena was born in Clydebank, Scotland on March 13, 1938, and ended her journey in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota on May 18, 2018. Preceded in death by her parents, William and Jean Ewen. Devoted wife of 51 years to Douglas Alexander Tomney (1938-2015). Loving mother to children Robin (Sandy) Tomney, Nicola (Michael) Bradley, and Trevor (Laura) Tomney, and grandmother to Gavin, Claire, and Nicholas Bradley, and Bailee, Chloe, and Ian Tomney. Survived by her brother, Gordon (partner Ann)Ewen, brother-in-law Ian (Nancy) Tomney, many nieces and nephews and friends. Sheena graduated from Clydebank High School, and attended the Scottish College of Commerce in Glasgow, Scotland where she received an Associate's Degree in Business. In Glasgow, Sheena worked for the Shell Oil Company, and later went into Hospital Administration. After marrying Douglas in 1963, the couple moved to Dunblane, Scotland, where their son, Robin, was born. In 1967, her husband, Douglas, took a position at Seagram's and moved to Trelawny Estates, Jamaica, where their daughter Nicola, was born. Through Douglas's work, Sheena moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada from 1970-75, where their son, Trevor, was born. Douglas and Sheena then moved to St. Catharines, Ontario from 1975-78. Douglas and Sheena decided in 1978 to move their family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they lived until 1993. Sheena and Douglas made one last career move to Chelsea, Michigan where Douglas became Chief Financial Officer at Chelsea Milling Company ("Jiffy Mixes") until 2003. Feeling the lure of the ocean, Douglas and Sheena decided to retire to the Lexington Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida to relax and enjoy the sun and water, and spend time with friends. They decided to make their final move in 2014 to Boutwells Landing in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota to be near family.
Sheena, after moving around to many places, decided to become a homemaker. Sheena was very involved in raising her children, as she volunteered and attended many school functions. Church and religion were very important to Sheena, where she held leadership positions (ie. Elder) throughout the churches she belonged, taught Sunday school, and enjoyed singing in the choir with Douglas. Sheena was active for over 30 years in P.E.O, held many leadership positions, including President for two different chapters, and loved being with her "PEO sisters". Once the children were grown, Sheena volunteered at Chelsea Hospital in the Women's Health Department, and eventually became a medical receptionist. While in Ft. Myers, Sheena volunteered at the ER at Health Park. Sheena enjoyed hosting many Burns suppers, and toasting the haggis, with the St. Andrews Society. Sheena was a world traveler with Douglas, and she enjoyed experiencing new cultures. Sheena's favorite place to visit was New Zealand and Australia, but included other excursions to Polynesia, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, the Panama Canal, Barbados and the Virgin Islands, Lake Louise, and France. Even with those exotic trips, Sanibel Island, Florida was a favorite, as she could relax and enjoy time with her family. Though her heart remained loyal to Scotland, Sheena decided to become a U.S. citizen in 2001. Sheena's warmth and radiant smile will be missed by family and friends. Sheena was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
