Sherry Nygaard

Sherry B. Nygaard, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025, at St. John's Hospital, with her family and close friends by her side.

Sherry was born on July 20th, 1947, in Minneapolis, to Lowell and Marjorie Kaplan. She attended school and graduated from Saint Louis Park, MN. Sherry had a successful career in banking, where she met the love of her life, Elmer, with whom she shared over 55 years of love and partnership. She later transitioned into real estate, and alongside Elmer, they founded Home Owners Mortgage, where they worked together for many years, building both a business and a family legacy.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Sherry was a constant source of love, support, and joy to those closest to her. She cherished her time spent with family and friends, particularly enjoying lake life, visiting casinos, and cooking her famous meals for her loved ones. Her warmth and generosity made her a beloved figure, and her sense of humor and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Sherry was a devoted and loving grandmother who took great pride in watching her grandchildren grow. She always made time for the important moments in her family's lives.

Sherry is preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Marjorie Kaplan; her husband's parents, Elmer (Sr.) and Lillian Nygaard; her niece, Jodi Sclar; and her best friend, Sue.

She is survived by her loving husband, Elmer; son Brian (Holly); grandchildren Kathryn Elstad, Eli Nygaard, and Alexis Nygaard; sister Marilyn (David) Sclar; and many other beloved family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Saint Andrews Lutheran Church, 900 Stillwater Road, Mahtomedi, on Friday, March 28th, at 11 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior.
