Shirley Lund

Shirley Marion Lund nee Sperberg, age 93, of Stillwater passed away peacefully May 4, 2019. She was born April 11, 1926 in Stambaugh, Michigan. She graduated from Michigamme (Michigan) High School and earned her bachelor's degree in general science from Michigan College of Mining and Technology. She married her high school sweetheart, Philip Lund, and had 60 wonderful years together until his death in 2008.
Shirley enjoyed having time with family and friends. She loved games and puzzles and played in many bridge groups. She was a leader and active member of her church. She created a loving home for her husband and children. She prepared countless income tax returns for clients, later owning her own business. Gathering with her family, siblings and nieces and nephews, often in Michigamme, was a priority; celebrating anniversaries and birthdays, and the small town 4th of July festivities. Shirley and Phil rebuilt their summer cabin on Lake Carnelian into a retirement home after over 30 years in Roseville. They spent part of the winters in Sun City Center, Florida. They moved to Boutwells Landing in 2004. She will be remembered as a gracious and kind woman with a strong faith, who put others first.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip; brothers, Lawrence and Lester Sperberg; sisters, Irene Riha and Carol Luke; and infant grandson, Charles James Lefferts. Survived by her children, Steven, Peter, Kristin (James) Lefferts and David (Ann); her grandchildren, Peder Lund, Kelsey (Nick) Sullivan, Karl (Riley) Lund, MaryAnn, John and Carlos Lefferts; her great-grandchildren, Korinne Lund, Ella, Penelope and Adrian Sullivan; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Memorial service Friday, May 10, 2019, 11:00 A.M. at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 6201 Osgood Avenue North, Stillwater. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church or Boutwells Landing. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Michigamme. Many thanks to the staff of Boutwells Landing for the care they gave to Shirley these last years.
