Thomas King

d. February 18, 2022

North Oaks, Minnesota

Thomas Ray King passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022 after battling Alzheimer's Disease. He was born May 18, 1940 to Ray and Charlotte King and graduated from Edina High School and University of Minnesota. His mother assembled eleven scrapbooks detailing his academic and athletic accomplishments. He was inducted into the Edina High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was halfback for the Rose Bowl-winning Gopher football team in 1960. Tom graduated from the U of M law school and became a recognized securities and finance lawyer. He was known to guide and mentor lawyers, friends and clients. He spent much of his career at Fredrikson and Byron, where he became chair of the board. Community service was also important to Tom. He was a donor to endless causes and he also served as chair of the board of the Legal Aid Society, Children's Home Society, and president of North Oaks Golf Club. Tom was an unusual combination of competition and compassion. Many have noted his handshake was both a greeting and a contest. He was an avid reader, a dedicated walker and a superb animal lover, especially to our horses, dogs and crows.

Many thanks are due to his family, friends, neighbors and clients who celebrated life with Tom for his 81 years. The support Tom received was unbelievable. Thanks also to Shoreview Senior Living and St. Croix Hospice for wonderful care. Private family interment has taken place and a memorial celebration will take place at a later date. Details will be updated here. Memorials may be directed to Children's Home Society, UofM Foundation - Sandy Stephens Scholarship Fund, or Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid. Tom is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Blair (Ivan); brother, Douglas (Ging). He was preceded in death by brother, Dallas; sister, Lana.

Tom truly had over 80 years of a life well-lived, and well-loved.
