Thomas Frederick Witschen
Age 73 of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Passed away on August 24th at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.
Tom was born on December 3, 1949, to Jerome Witschen and Delores Witschen (Nentl) in St. Cloud, MN. After Tom graduated from Park Senior High in Cottage Grove, MN, he attended the University of Wisconsin in River Falls to study broadcasting, as well as attending Brown Institute of Broadcasting. Tom was always a sports fanatic and knew this was the avenue he should take. His first job was at a radio station in Preston, MN. From there he went to Red Wing, MN and started to broadcast sports. You would hear him broadcasting Prep Bowls, or high school hockey tournaments during March Madness. Over four decades as a broadcaster, he has worked at numerous colleges and high schools in Minnesota and Wisconsin, broadcasting more than 4,000 games. In 2000, he started TJSportsonline.net, and in 2007, he was inducted into the Minnesota State High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame. In 2013, the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honored him with the Mike Augustin Award.
Tom leaves behind his sisters, Connie Flores (Bob), Sandy Jamison (Tom); nine nieces and nephews, Megan Kustermeyer (Jack), Rhett Witschen, April Witschen, Jennifer Witschen, Danny Witschen, Brian Jamison (Lisa), Jeffrey Jamison (Stacy), Jonathan Jamison (Beth), and Gregory Jamison (Cheryl); and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother Michael, and niece Christine Jamison.
Visitation 4-7pm Tuesday, August 29th at Bradshaw Funeral Home, 1078 Rice Street, St. Paul.
Mass of Christian Burial 11am Wednesday, August 30th at St. John the Evangelist, 380 Little Canada Rd E, Little Canada, with visitation beginning one hour prior.
Burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1800 Edgerton St., St. Paul, MN.
