Ursula Elfriede Treutler passed away peacefully at her home in Stillwater, Minnesota, surrounded by her loving family, on August 14, 2024, at the age of 93.
Born on June 23, 1931, in Oldenburg, Germany, to Anton and Mariechen (Rüscher) Fickenfrers, Ursula's early years were marked by the challenges of growing up during World War II. As a young girl, she witnessed the hardships and resilience of her community, experiences that would shape her strength and determination in the years to come. Despite the turmoil of the war, Ursula pursued her education and developed a passion for being a seamstress, a craft she learned during her secondary schooling.
In 1953, Ursula married Gerhard Treutler. Together, they welcomed their beloved daughter, Angelika (Elliott, affectionately known as Angie or Geli). Seeking new opportunities, the family immigrated to Rice Lake, Wisconsin, in 1962. Despite the challenges of adapting to a new country and learning a new language, Ursula's determination led her to purchase Gundy's Shoe Repair Shop within a year of their arrival. She renamed it Treutler's Shoe Repair and successfully ran the business for 30 years, with Gerhard eventually joining her in the shop. Alongside managing the business, Ursula fulfilled a long-held dream by becoming a licensed real estate agent.
After her retirement in 1993 and following Gerhard's passing in 1996, Ursula relocated to Stillwater, Minnesota. There, she reconnected with a longtime family friend, Harry Honigmann, with whom she shared many joyful years. Together, they enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Mesquite, Nevada. Ursula's zest for life was unwavering; she loved dancing the tango and marked her 90th birthday by taking to the dance floor, a testament to her enduring spirit.
In her later years, Ursula faced health challenges but was able to remain at home, cared for with deep love by her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerhard, her sister, Frieda W.M. Schmenkel, and her dear companion, Harry Honigmann.
Ursula's legacy lives on through her daughter, Angelika Elliott (Gary Dallek), her grandson, Antony (Gretchen) Elliott, her great-granddaughters, Ava and Nora, her sister-in-law, Marie Luise (Nikolaus) Miesing, her nieces and nephews, and her loyal four-footed companion, Lolo. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
