V. Clayton Lafferty, formerly of Sarasota, FL and Laconia, NH died Thursday, July 10, 2014 in St. Paul, MN. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Chapel at Presbyterian Homes, Waverly Gardens. Visitation is 1 hour prior to the Mass. Bradshaw Funeral Services of White Bear Lake is handling the arrangements.
V. Clayton Lafferty was born in Spenser, IA on September 24, 1928. He was the son of Raymond and Elizabeth (Tritz) Lafferty. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an electronics technician. He graduated from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI in 1950 with a BS in electrical engineering and earned a Master's degree in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL in 1956. On May 26, 1951, he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Hokenson in West Allis, WI.
Clayton is survived by Beverly, his wife of 63 years; his children: Barbara (Loren) Braun of Golden Valley, MN; Ann (Martin) Corbett of Mt. Holly, NJ; Timothy Lafferty of Santa Cruz, CA; Daniel (Barbara) Lafferty of Los Angeles, CA; Patrick (Bridget) Lafferty of Wauwatosa, WI; and Sean (Sharon) Lafferty of New York City, NY; his 13 grandchildren: Emily (Christopher) Ryan, Elena Braun, Timothy Corbett, Claire Corbett, James Lafferty, Kathleen (Patrick) Pacheco, Sarah Lafferty, Rachel Lafferty, Aidan Lafferty, Conor Lafferty, Keinan Lafferty, Quinn Lafferty, Ian Lafferty; and 4 great grandchildren: Zelda, Link and Zoe Pacheco, and Conan Baggett.
He is survived by his sisters and in-laws: Sr. Nancy Lafferty, Virginia (Roy) Struve, Judy Lafferty, Sr. Andre Lafferty, Elaine Hokenson and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Eleanor Queenan, Kathleen Rose Lafferty, Jeanne Walker, Sylvia Lafferty, Ann Marie Lafferty and his brother, Monsignor James Kendall Lafferty; and 4 brothers-in-law.
Clayton was a member of St. Genevieve's Catholic Church in Centerville, MN. He was the head of Research and Development at United Parcel Service for most of his career. He holds several patents and developed the prototype of the "Smart Pad" used today by UPS delivery. Clay was a Eucharistic Minister for many years and taught religion to church youth. He was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years and climbed, hiked, camped, spelunked and canoed throughout the Midwest and Northeast America. He traveled the world and summited Ayers Rock in Australia and barely missed summiting Kilimanjaro in Africa. He logged over 100 scuba dives across the globe. Clay enjoyed coin collecting, building model railroads, basket weaving, playing bridge, and spending time with his family.
The family is grateful for the loving care provided to Clay by the staff of Presbyterian Homes, Waverly Gardens. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to Presbyterian Homes, Waverly Gardens.
