Passed away peacefully on November 15, 2018 at Essentia Health - St Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. Preceded in death by his beloved maternal grandmother, Anna Drusch; mother, Rose Drusch Andert and step-father, Jake Andert; granddaughter, Heather Jo Drusch. Survived by wife, Kathleen M. DeLonais (Grand Marais, MN); children, Frank Schuhmann (Germany) and Scott Drusch (Iowa); granddaughters, Sarah (Ozkan) Schuhmann (Germany) and Emily Rose Drusch (Iowa); sister, Eunice Haas (Wilmar, MN); brothers, Kurt Andert (Olivia, MN), Darvin Andert (Granite Falls MN); and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Virgil had a wide circle of friends, some from grade school days to those newer ones he met while living in Grand Marais. He was extremely patriotic and loved his country, he spent most of his army career in Germany in finance, and that led to a career in banking as a loan officer after his honorable discharge. He later went on to work in car sales and then was Secretary/Treasurer of the DeLonais Foundation before his retirement. He enjoyed sports and played several of them in high school and while in the military. After returning home he played baseball on the Fairfax Cardinals amateur baseball team and others. He was a true "boy of summer." He was also an avid bowler and golfer, often playing in tournaments. Being born in the rich farm area of Brown County, he never lost his love of the land from rich dark soil to tall waving crops. He tried to visit his old stomping grounds at least once a year. He had been a member of Optimist International and later several historical society's and was a loyal friend and did what he could to make whatever community he lived in a better place. Memorial Service, Sunday, November 25th at 4PM with Visitation beginning at 1PM at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd., Stillwater MN. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, date and time pending. Memorials preferred to University of Wisconsin River Falls Foundation, River Falls, WI or St John's Lutheran Church and School, Fairfax, MN.
